MEALS ON WHEELS
Some of our Favorite New York City Food Trucks
Locals and seasoned tourists know that when it comes to the city’s best eats, some of the most delicious and authentic options are in the form of food trucks. Forego the pretense and pomp of table service and cloth napkins, and get ready to scour the New York City Streets (we’ve helped you out with some of their favorite locations and their permanent outposts) for some of the city’s most addictive and craveable offerings. Included on our list are a seafood staple, sweet treats, and a sauce so amazing it’s been dubbed as ‘crack sauce.’
Korilla BBQ
Korilla BBQ has become a staple for locals and a bucket list item for Food Network fans who recognize the tiger-striped truck from “The Greatest Food Truck Race.” Offering tacos, burritos, and rice bowls filled with Korean-style meats like beef bulgogi, braised short ribs and spicy chicken, and house-made kimchi, owner Eddie Song combines the best of classic Korean cuisine with American flair (think a burrito with bulgogi and bacon kimchi fried rice). The truck is also famous for its green crack sauce, which offers notes of of cilantro and charred jalapeno. We’re not sure what else the sauce contains, but we can promise it’s as addictive as the name implies.
Korilla offers three locations and trucks whose location changes daily. They also post their locations on Twitter & Instagram. Complete information may be found (here)
Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream Truck
Born in a tiny Brooklyn apartment in 2007, this classic ice cream truck offers both classic and vegan ice cream for those wanting to indulge their sweet tooth. Since opening its yellow truck doors, these ice cream artisans have expanded into a mini ice cream empire with stores and trucks in NYC and LA, pints in grocery stores, and a published cookbook. All of their treats are all still handmade in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with fresh ingredients like fresh milk, cream, cane sugar, and egg yolks. With flavors like ‘Peanut Butter Marshmallow Crunch’ and ‘Black Sesame Ash Chocolate,’ these trucks are worth the chase. While their truck locations and hours vary, there’s luckily some permanent stores now open, so you can always get your sugar fix.
Van Leeuwen offers outposts throughout the City, for complete details visit the ‘shops + trucks’ section of their official website (here)
Luke's Lobster
This East Village-born sustainable lobster shack has been serving wild-caught lobster since 2009. Since then, they’ve rolled out of a slew of physical locations (including one right here onsite at Row NYC’s very own City Kitchen), have licensing deals throughout Asia, garnered a deal selling to Whole Foods, and still maintain a traveling food truck. NYC's #1 lobster roll, which first became famous for its sea-to-table concept and buttery offerings is still committed to serving fresh, superior ingredients from ocean to plate.
