Tastes Like Fall V: 2.0
Celebrate the season with our favorite fall dishes
Fall has officially arrived, and that means it’s time for another round-up of our favorite autumnal eats. With the changing of the leaves also comes figure-forgiving layers, and that makes us excited because our favorite fall dishes are rich, hearty, and as nourishing as the season itself. Comfort food is key to get through the colder temperatures and New York’s best restaurants celebrate the bounty of the season with inspired offerings that taste like fall:
BRAISED SHORT RIB CAVATELLI
at The Smith
A casual American Brasserie with four locations throughout the city, The Smith is a New York staple, and a favorite of locals who love the restaurant’s upbeat vibe and consistently delicious offerings. It’s a casual joint, ideal for an easy, impromptu meal and their menu offers something for everyone. For the season, we recommend their braised short rib cavatelli, made with perfectly al dente pasta, a ten-hour short rib ragu, and marscapone cheese.
THE PORTERHOUSE
at The Grill
For those seeking something a little more excessive, Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone’s The Grill in Midtown is a must. Fair warning- this place is pricey, but with the hefty price tag comes a truly immersive dining experience and some of the best food in the world. Outfitted in mahogany woods, warm lighting, and beaded curtains, the Grill is an ode to a different era, with an aesthetic that somehow makes you feel warm before you’ve even had a bite. Every dish here screams “rich decadence,” but go for the porterhouse for something truly indulgent.
A PERFECT PAIRING
at District M
Conveniently, located onsite at ROW nyc, District M offers a unique ambiance at a central location only steps away from Times Square. An inspired choice for a casual evening, go for one of District M’s hand-stretched pizzas or their generously-portioned, artisanal cheese boards. Paired with a fall-inspired cocktail, it’s a perfect option to warm-up on a chilly October evening. We recommend their Mulberry Street pizza topped with Esposito’s spicy fennel sausage, mozzarella, and roasted bell peppers.
TOKYO SHOYU
Because nothing says “comfort” like a big bowl of steaming soup, we had to include ramen on our list. And no one does the iconic Asian dish better than Ivan Ramen, a man who garnered acclaim as the winner of “Chef’s Table.” Since opening his New York City noodle shops (Slurp Shop and Clinton Street), Ivan Orkin’s fun and casual dining room has been packed with patrons flocking to indulge in his flavorful creations. Though there’s no soup that’s not perfect for the fall, his Tokyo Shoyu with soy sauce, dashi, chicken broth, pork belly, soft egg, and toasted nori is a particularly hearty and satisfying option.
