Hudson Yards

...Subtitle

It takes a lot to get New Yorkers excited. We’re slightly jaded, more than a little spoiled, and we’ve seen and experienced it all. However, even the most cynical in the city can’t keep it cool when talking about Hudson Yards. Recently opened to dramatic fanfare, the “city within a city,” is basically the biggest thing since sliced bread.

Located between 10th and 12th Avenues from West 30th to West 34th Street, Hudson Yards is home to more than 100 shops and dining destinations, corporate offices, public art installations, residences, fourteen acres of public plazas, and gardens. The eighteen-million square foot, $25-billion development is not just a complex, it’s a complete new neighborhood within Manhattan.

Of course, shoppers will find a retail paradise with everything from global brands to artsy, upscale boutiques, and foodies will find joy in restaurants from culinary legends Thomas Keller, David Chang, José Ramón Andrés and Ferran and Albert Adrià. However, the true draw for the largest private real estate development in the United States are the array of architectural, art, and entertainment attractions.

The unequivocal centerpiece of Hudson Yards is The Vessel, a spiral staircase and soaring new landmark for Manhattan. Built to be climbed, the staircase is an interactive work of art. Conceived by Thomas Heatherwick and Heatherwick Studio, The Vessel is Hudson Yards’ focal point with 154 interconnecting flights of stairs (almost 2,500 individual steps and 80 landings). It’s almost a one mile vertical climb, but those who are willing to make the climb are privy to city and river views from different heights, angles and vantage points.

Also onsite is The Shed, which is being called “a new center for artistic invention in New York City.” The Shed brings together both established and emerging artists in music, painting, digital media, theater, literature, sculpture, and dance. The structure is built to be moveable and adaptable in order to support all forms of art.

Hudson Years also features the highest outdoor deck in the entire Western Hemisphere. The views are spectacular, with the city skyline showcased in full panorama. For those who don’t fear heights, there’s a large glass floor which you can stand on and stare straight down 1,1000 feet below.

The Public Square and Gardens has over 28,000 shrubs, 200 trees, and jet engines. Yes, jet engines- along with smart soil and an advanced irrigation system that make the park the smartest park ever conceived.

Hudson Yards is conveniently located just a short ten-minute cab ride or a twenty minute walk from the Row NYC.
